About the MA Salesperson exam

To register to take the exam with the Pearson VUE Testing Service, one needs to:

1. Call Pearson VUE at 800-274-0501 to schedule the exam, fax the fax enrollment form to 888-204-6291, or visit the website at www.pearsonvue.com.

2. The examination fee must be paid at the time of making the reservation by credit card, debit card, voucher or electronic check. The exam fee is currently $101.

3. Bring the completed Education Certificate form (stamped by the School at the completion of the course), proper identification, the confirmation number you will have received, along with three candidate endorsements found in the Candidate Handbook to the test center when taking the exam.

Other information that is useful to know is:

The exam is given in Worcester, Boston, Woburn, Springfield and North Dartmouth on different days of the week, spelled out in the Candidate Handbook.

The Salesperson exam is given in two parts, the national (general) portion and the MA state law portion. The student is given four hours (4 hours) to complete the 80 question (plus up to 5 pretest questions) national exam and 40 question (plus up to 10 pretest questions) MA state law exam. A passing grade is getting at least 70% correct on both portions.

The Salesperson exam typically has 8 math questions. Silent, non-programmable, numeric-only calculators are allowed. Exam rooms may not be well-lit because of the computerized nature of the exam. As such, solar calculators may not always work. Battery powered calculators should be used.

Exams are computerized. Prior to taking the actual exam, students have a 10 minute practice test to help them get familiar with the testing software and computer equipment (keyboard and mouse). Results are given immediately after completion of the exam, with a score report, and a breakdown of National exam strengths and weaknesses. Once you pass the exam, you will be immediately licensed at the test site.
